Seattle Central Community College (SCCC) Credit is available for Global Visionaries participants. SCCC is an accredited institution - named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best institutions in the U.S.A.
It is simple to register. Email Karen Kato at kakato@sccd.ctc.edu or call (206) 587-6998. She will personally handle your registration materials.
Check with the universities you plan on applying to in the future to ensure that they will accept the transferred credit from SCCC. (See university list below; note: it is not a complete list) Most colleges accept the Spanish credit as elective credit towards college graduation (not as a course in their Spanish Language and Grammar sequence of courses [i.e.: Spanish 101. 102, 201, 202, etc.])
The credits can also be applied to a high school transcript for high school credit. Check first with your high school counselor for details. Chris Fontana is the Adjunct Professor for the course. After you register, he will email your grade to SCCC.
You must be 16 years or older in order to enroll at SCCC by September following the trip. If you are not 16, you may retroactively apply for the credit once you turn 16. You can register for any quarter (winter, spring, etc).
All fees for college credit is paid to SCCC (Seattle Central Community College), not Global Visionaries. You do not need Global Visionaries staff to sign any paper work.
For more information, contact Chris Fontana at GV at (206) 322-9448.
The following is a list of colleges and universities that have accepted Seattle Central Community College's travel/study credit. Please be advised that these schools do not automatically accept the credit. In some instances, certain programs within a university will accept the credit; others will not. Students who plan to use the travel/study courses to fulfill specific curriculum requirements should discuss transfer options, and if possible, obtain written approval from a counselor, department chairperson, or study abroad advisor at their "home" college/university PRIOR to enrollment in our courses.
These credits are considered "restricted" electives for students attending Seattle Central Community College and five credits may apply toward the elective area of the Associate of Arts degree.
