Students become a member of a Guatemalan family, which for many becomes home away from home. They experience the culture and customs first hand. All of our families are carefully pre-screened by our two full time Guatemalan staff members. All the families live close by our language school (within 6 blocks). Antigua, Guatemala and the several surrounding towns have been involved in hosting foreign guests since the early 1960's. Foreign visitors come to this area to experience the generosity, the warmth and affection that Guatemalan families have come to be known for.

Our staff and our program are widely known in Antigua and the surrounding villages. It is because we take the time and care to establish relationships with each of our families. We carefully select each family based on the family members, friendliness, expertise in hosting foreigners, cooking and cleanliness.

Prior to each trip, staff and families get together to review our shared expectations, guidelines and expectations. We do this despite the fact that many of our families have been working with us for many years!

Following each trip, students evaluate each aspect of their home stay experience which informs staff to any modifications or changes families need to make, or if necessary, to discontinue working with a family if the fit is not right.

The GV home stay experience is one of the most meaningful aspects of the GV program. Over 95% of our students are very satisfied with their experience. Many hope to return Guatemala to see their new family again.
