GV Scholarships

One of Global Visionaries' (GV) goals is to make our programs available to all who are interested, regardless of financial resources. Thus we base the fee for the program on a sliding scale. Participants and their families help determine what they can afford to pay. Each year since 2002 when Global Visionaries became a non-profit corporation, GV has been able to increase the amount we allocate to scholarships, thanks to the generous support we receive from our community.

How to apply for Financial Aid

  1. Fill out the Financial Aid Request included in the program application. Apply Now.
  2. Submit a request with a copy of your 2009 1040 tax form and the rest of the application materials.
  3. Schedule a Financial Interview, held between October 18-23, 2010 at the GV office. (see Financial Aid Request Form for more details).
  4. Participate in the Financial Interview. During this interview, you will meet with a GV representative to determine:
    • Amount parents/guardians will contribute
    • Amount student will fundraise
    • Amount of scholarship
  5. You will receive a payment plan for the year with your financial agreement.

To Keep In Mind

  1. GV has allocated $93,636 in scholarships to reduce program fees for families this year.
  2. Participant Fees. Participant Fees are the cost for you to participate in the program. We calculate the cost of airfare, passport, and inoculations as part of your Participant Fees.

Participant Fees include both the parent contribution and the student fundraising. GV expects each family to pull its weight in seeking outside financial help. This enables more families to receive scholarships. All students are expected to fundraise to offset the cost of the Participant Fees.
  3. The parent/guardian contribution and the student fundraising expectation vary according to the family's situation. You will have the opportunity to discuss what you can pay/fundraise during your financial interview.
  4. Project Fund. Students are also required to raise money for the Project Fund, which is the money to carry out service projects in Guatemala (build schools, plant forests, etc.). Each student is required to raise between $100 - $1,000 for the Project Fund ($500 being the average among all students).
  5. GV Scholarship. GV bases the scholarship on family income, number of dependents, and fundraising capacity. The table below gives a range of scholarship amounts.
