Communications and Public Relations 2011

The PR/Communications intern is responsible for the written content featured on print and web media, maintaining GVs social media presence, and completing any communications-related projects as assigned.
These duties include: create monthly e-newsletter, write blog and news articles, update website copy, write press releases and seek media coverage, proofread and edit copy (for printed and web purposes), write feature stories, collaborate with Executive Director in creation of new brochures, draft research documents, manage social media sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr), and manage student PR interns. Generally, more than one person is hired to fulfill all the responsibilities of this position; you may choose one of the above tasks (i.e.: just newsletter and not website) and focus on that specific task based on your prior skills and/or interests. Apply journalistic skills to maintain relationships with the traditional and non-traditional media (bloggers).
This position requires a commitment of 8-15 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months. The schedule is flexible. This is an unpaid internship.
Prior experience or college degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications preferred.
Desired Qualifications
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, Front Page, Publisher, Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Knowledge of Web 2.0 applications preferred but not required
