Intensive Leadership Program

Applications are now being accepted for our 2012-13 program.

The Intensive Leadership Program will provide students with a dynamic learning experience which includes 14 days in Guatemala and 3 days stateside prior to the trip.

This year we are offering one additional Intensive trip: exploring social justice and ally work more in depth.

Summer Intensive

  • July 13 – July 26, 2013

The Intensive Leadership Training Program educates and trains students in cross-cultural understanding, fundraising, and social action. This 17 day program and includes a 3 day pre-trip workshop and leadership training, and a 14 day cultural immersion trip to Guatemala and international service projects focused on social and environmental justice.

Summer Intensive (Allies)

  • August 10 – August 23, 2013

The focus of this program is deepening our awareness and understanding of social justice issues impacting our communities locally and globally. We will be exploring our privilege as US citizen and really strategizing the best way to work as allies. The Allies Program will provide the same rich 3 day workshop and two week experience in Guatemala as the Intensive Program. Participants will have the opportunity to stay with a homestay family, rotate through our various work teams, and engage in one on one Spanish lessons.

More Trip Details

In Guatemala, students will work on three different work teams: Construction, Hospital, and Reforestation. The Intensive Leadership Program will focus on social justice issues. During the pre-departure Pro-Justice Workshop students will be examining systematic oppression both locally and globally, finding ways to advocate for justice and peace. The Pro-Justice Workshop creates safe space for dialogue surrounding race, gender, class, age, and imperialism. These conversations will continue throughout the trip to Guatemala.

Additionally, you will have opportunities to learn about Guatemala through: experiencing different foods, living with a home-stay family, and participating in excursions to the local market, the Mayan ruins, and the highlands. This is a trip that cultivates hard work, good fun, cultural immersion, social justice and great friendships. We hope that you can be part of it!
